Sotheby’s Line Up More Multi Million Dollar Auctions

After I recently published a blog in regards to the $100,000 Penfolds Grange Auction, it has been revealed that there will be two more multi million dollar autumn auctions which will include over 800 lots of fine Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne with an estimated value of over HK$60 million.

The first sale includes over 280 lots with labelled with an estimate of $14-20m and includes notable vintages from 1982 to 2000 of Château Cheval Blanc.

Other highlights include ten cases of Mouton 2000, eight more cases of Cheval Blanc 2000 and eight of Margaux 2000, as well as collections of Château d’Yquem and Vega Sicilia Unico.

The second sale includes a collection of very important Burgundy and Bordeaux examples from a private cellar. With over 500 lots set to make up to HK$40m, Sotheby’s are looking to make the most of their 40th year dealing in Asia.

Serena Sutcliffe MW, head of Sotheby’s international wine department, said a highlight of the first sale was the ‘preponderance of legendary wines at their beautiful maturity’, adding: ‘One has only to look at the “forest” of First Growth 1982s to start salivating.’

There are another 250 lots of Bordeaux, plus Rhônes, Chapoutier, Rayas and Jaboulet; Champagnes, Super-Tuscans and premier Australian wines such as Penfolds Grange and Clarendon Hills.

The week of sales also includes an ex-cellar auction of Domaine Clarence Dillon wines, featuring Châteaux Haut-Brion, Quintus and La Mission Haut-Brion.
